Putnam Firefighters Respond To Walking Horse Lane House Fire Thursday Night

Putnam County firefighters were on the scene of a house fire Thursday night for almost four hours.

Chief Tom Brown said that a neighbor called in a fire on Walking Horse Lane around 9:30 p.m. He said that when firefighters arrived on scene the fire was heavy on the front of the house and present in the attic and lower parts of the house.

“That downstairs room that is probably going to be the room of origin is pretty much gutted,” Brown said. “The rest of the house sustained heat, smoke, water, that type of thing. There is a lot of damage but the house is still standing.”

Brown said that no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no human injuries, but pets were lost to the fire. He said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Brown said that the county department also responded to reports of a gas leak near Officer Chapel Road on Highway 111. He said that a passerby heard the explosion and reported the leak.

Brown said that a small line of propane that travels to an emergency shut-off ruptured for unknown reasons. He siad that it was not a large leak and was taken care of swiftly.
