Putnam EMS To Host CPR And AED Training Courses This Saturday

Putnam County EMS offering free CPR and AED training courses to the community this Saturday.

Public Relations Coordinator Tiffany Smith said the department has been working to host these classes for several years. She said not only is it something the department enjoys doing, but it serves as a benefit to the community.

“CPR is not something you ever learn for yourself its something you learn in case of an emergency with those around you, be it a loved one or a friend,” Smith said. “It’s something we hope no one ever has to use, but if they do, we want them to be prepared.”

Smith said attendees will learn the basics of how to first recognize if someone needs CPR. She said they will learn to decide whether an individual just needs help with breathing or will need full CPR with chest compressions.

Smith said participants will also learn how to treat victims who are choking or who need defibrillation from AED machines. She said Putnam County has over 500 AEDs in public buildings, and the more people who are trained on the equipment the better.

“And just having this training and having even this basic knowledge could someday save a life,” Smith said.
