Registration for Putnam County’s Fairest of the Fair Pageant comes to a close this Friday.
Pageant Chair Shannon Hayes said in this pageant, first place can not be earned by just appearance. Hayes said young women are judged more on their confidence and personality.
“Twenty-five percent of their score is based on their interview,” Hayes said. “So, we have stage presence. We have poise. We have interview. We have on-stage questions. It is so much more than just looks.”
Hayes said the event has always been a popular one. Hayes said participants have a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship and compete at the state level.
“This is not only an opportunity to represent your hometown fair, but our Fairest of the Fair also receives a $1,000 scholarship for the college or technical school of their choosing,” Hayes said. “They represent our fair at a state pageant in the winter.”
Hayes said the experience gives 16-20 year old women a chance to display who they are while having a fun competition. Hayes said one can register by visiting the Putnam County Fair website.
“All entry forms have to be turned in by Friday at noon,” Hayes said. “Interviews are this Sunday the 11th at 2:00 p.m., and then the pageants are next Saturday July 17th.”
Hayes said the interview situation will be a one on one format this year. Hayes said all participants must live in Putnam County.
