Putnam County WOW Bus Seeks Book Donations

The Putnam County WOW Reader Bus is seeking donations for its trip to Fall Fun Fest.

Early Learning Literacy Facilitator Barbara Greeson said the schools estimate the bus needs about 2,000 books to give out at the festival.

“We try to give books to kids from birth through probably third grade. But we do have some chapter books that reach up through middle school,” Greeson said. “We try to have some of those available for siblings as well.”

Greeson said the bus has given away approximately 1,200 books in June.

“Now it is sort of exploded and during the month of June, which is when we launched the bus as far as giving books away,” Greeson said. “We had fifteen different times we stopped at the parks.”

Greeson said the donated new and used books will teach children the benefits of reading.

“We want kids to learn that reading is a fun activity,” Greeson said. “There are lots of coursework and books and  research that has been done that the number one thing that we can do with children and for children is to grow them into readers.”

Gently used books can be donated at the Board of Education office.
