Putnam County Sergeant Mike Wilson passed away this morning in a battle with Stage 4 Melanoma.
Sheriff Eddie Farris said the Sheriff’s Office cannot replace the spirit of Sergeant Wilson.
“Well, it is a sad day for us and Sergeant Wilson was certainly a loss to us. He brought so much experience just as a sergeant with our juvenile detention as well as just being a good person,” Farris said. “So well, we are not going to replace him and he is going to be missed for a long long time.”
Wilson served the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for nineteen years.
“His last several years, he served at the juvenile detention location and served as a sergeant down there. And was involved in not only leading the kids but in our training as well,” Farris said. “So it is a great loss for us. It is going to take us a long time to be able to replace and try to fill that gap.”
Wilson left behind his wife Amy Wilson and his sons Alex and Jackson.
“We certainly know they are going through a difficult time right now. So we want to extend our prayers and thoughts to them,” Farris said. “And we are more of a family here at the Sheriff’s Office than we look at it as an employee. I certainly will continue to reach out to them, his family, and try to help them in any way we can.”
Wilson’s family continues to receive donations in memory of Wilson through “Michael’s Battle” GoFundMe account.
