Putnam County Sheriffs Dispatchers reported side roads “very bad” across the county as freezing rain fell overnight.
Multiple calls of vehicles off the road and not able to move, according to dispatchers. As of 6:45am, roads in the county are reported “horrible” with better conditions being reported in the city of Cookeville. Still, Sheriff Eddie Farris urged residents to stay off the road.
More ice accumulated Sunday morning in Monterey than in the lower elevations of the county. Monterey Police asked residents to remain inside, noting even gravel parking lots have turned into ice rinks.
Cumberland County Road Superintendent Scott Blaylock asked all residents to stay off the roads. Salt trucks are having difficulty operating because of the traffic and people sliding off the road.
Clay County Sheriffs Department reported roads across the county very slick. Smithville Police asked residents to stay off the road ways. Jackson County E-911 reported side roads with issues. Van Buren County 911 reported roads icy Monday morning. A Facebook post reported multiple accidents on Baker Mountain.
The next round of precipitation will begin arriving after 9am this morning. It is expected to bring more sleet and freezing rain. The track of the system will define just what the afternoon looks like across the region. Current models show it tracking across Nashville which would put the Upper Cumberland in the warm sector. A more eastern track would mean more ice and, potentially, snow.
Volunteer Energy is reporting about 90 customers without power as of 7am in White County.
