This month the Putnam County Library upgrades the flooring in the Cookeville and Monterey branches.
Phil Schaller directs the Putnam County Library.
“We realized that our flooring was old, our carpets were used,” Schaller said. “It had been about 6 years since the last carpet install and there were parts that were rough, dirty, dingy, couldn’t be cleaned.”
Schaller said the county and the library system put the floor remodeling on a five-year plan.
The library chose to use a vinyl floor as the replacement because of its durability, Schaller said. Previous remodeling projects at the library used this vinyl flooring.
This week, the Monterey branch will remodel and the Cookeville branch will re-floor the Tennessee Room the following week, Schaller said.
Schaller said the flooring projects should finish by the end of the month.
The county paid for the renovation project, Schaller said.
In the future, the Putnam County Library wants to update the library in other ways, Schaller said.
“We are trying to get ADA accessible doors at our North entrance and at the Monterey Library. Next year we are hoping to get study rooms added into the library, which should be very helpful,” Schaller said. “We are always trying to make the library a better place for our patrons, for the community. ”
