Putnam County’s Bus and Fairgrounds Committees are both waiting to formally meet until architectural drawings become available.
Mayor Randy Porter said the Fairgrounds Committee will have about three to four layout plans to review for a new location. Porter said an architect is still evaluating the Bus Garage and Highway Department’s needs for a new building.
“Being able to look at the architects drawings that they’ve been working on for the past several months,” Porter said. “Start trying to narrow down something that we think we’d like and trying to decide on a plan. So far, I think most folks are wanting to sell the old fairgrounds property before we actually start building on the new one. To have that revenue to be able to pay for it.”
Porter said he has met with the Bus Committee to update them on the land appraisal for a new Bus and Highway Department Building.
“I gave them a good update of what we’ve done already as far as on the Bus Garage and Highway Department,” Porter said. “We got an appraisal on that land and told them where that was at. The next thing’s going to be what will it cost to build that new building? That’s what we’re hoping to hear from the architect when they have their first meeting.”
Porter said the Fairgrounds committee will need to narrow down a plan moving forward after looking at the architects drawings. He said the county commission will need to make a decision about selling the old fairgrounds property.
He said he anticipates both committees formally meeting in the middle of February.
