Putnam County Commissioner Jimmy Neal has resigned his seat as District 9 Commissioner.
Neal shared his resignation in a letter to Mayor Randy Porter Thursday. Neal stated in the letter that he does not intend to serve as commissioner and resigned effective immediately.
Neal wrote that he has also withdrawn his name as a candidate on the August ballot. If re-elected, Neal asked that the letter would serve as a prospective resignation from the position.
Neal was charged and arrested in May by federal agents for the possession, receipt and distribution of child pornography. He was released on home incarceration under several conditions in June.
