Putnam Commission Postpones Consideration Of Gun Resolution

A resolution supporting the 2nd amendment presented by Putnam County Commissioner Jordan Iwanyszyn was tabled Monday night for May discussion.

The resolution stated that Putnam County would “dedicate no physical or financial resources toward the unlawful infringement of the right to keep and bear arms.”

After Iwanyszyn’s presentation, Commissioner Cindy Adams made a motion to amend the resolution. Adams said she would like to see the entire constitution supported and added to the resolution.

The amendment passed and sparked about 20 minutes of debate on the working and what was being voted on. Before the resolution was tabled, Commissioner Kevin Christopher said the amended resolution was “redundant” and the commission should not be using its platform for this matter.

Commissioner Ben Rodgers shared a similar message. Rodgers said he encouraged the commission to use its time to help the people of Putnam County instead of discussing issues at the federal level.

Iwanyszyn proposed the same resolution calling Putnam a “Second Amendment Sanctuary County” last year. It died in committee.
