Putnam Co. Library Introduces New Children’s Librarian

The Putnam County Library System has a new children’s librarian ready to help the youth of the community.

Shannon Chaney started her career with the system in 2018 as a library clerk. She said she is prepared to undertake the role and encourage more families to participate in the library system.

“Introducing children to libraries and to books and literacy is on of the most rewarding parts of this job,” Chaney said. “But, we also try to introduce children to technological literacy.”

Chaney said she oversees the book selection found in the children’s portion of the library. She is currently working towards offering virtual story times and arts and crafts as her first program.

“We are working toward to continue to offer story time and other programs for kids of all ages,” Chaney said. “We hope to offer virtual programs as much as we can before we are back in person.”

The children’s library can be visited by appointment only with the capacity of six people.

Chaney moved to Putnam County as a child and grew up in the community.
