Putnam Building Numbers Rise In September, Largest Month Since March

September was a big month for building construction in Putnam county with 49 permits for $8.2 million.

According to County Mayor Randy Porter, it was the largest month since the record breaking March of 52 permits for $11.44 million.

Twenty-four of the 49 permits were for new single family homes. In comparison, September of 2020 had 30 permits for $3.1 million.

“With lumber prices coming back down, new home construction appears to be on the rise again,” Porter said in an email. “If September is any preview, we may be headed back to the record setting levels we saw before the lumber shortage hit. There are also several new subdivisions being developed that will offer hundreds of building lots into the supply chain.”

So far this fiscal year (3 months), 101 permits were issued for $15.6 million with 45 of those being new homes. These are county numbers that do not include the 4 cities.
