Putnam ARP Funding To Help With Water Capacity On Buck Mountain

Putnam County using some its American Rescue Plan funding to help purchase a new water tank for the city of Algood.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said the county commission has approved up to $550,000 to the expenditure.

“The mountain area is using more water than we’re at capacity for, and so, this will give us more capacity and be sure that mountain residents on the Buck Mountain area will have adequate water supply,” Morrison said.

Morrison said the current tank has a capacity of 75,000 gallons. Morrison said current usage is about double that number, so the city looks to purchase a 300,000 gallon water tank.

“The pump station at the bottom of the mountain needs an upgrade, which we were already in the engineering for and already have funding set aside for that project, ” Morrison said. “So, the next phase would have been the tank, so the county has agreed to go ahead and provide the funding.”

Morrison said the increased capacity would allow for more development on Buck Mountain. Morrison said there has been interest to grow residential in the area, but water has been a lacking factor.

Next step is to put the project out for bid. Morrison said the goal would be to have the new tank operational in a years time.
