Construction on Cookeville’s brand new Cane Creek Dog Park will begin this Fall.
“We are still in the planning stages,” Cookeville Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said. “We are developing plans as we speak, and we hope to have our plans finalized this summer.”
The city included the plan in a master plan for Cane Creek Park four years ago. Woods said some ideas for the park include a fenced “leash-off” area for dogs. A potential small and large dog area would be separated. The park will include multiple shaded seating areas and trash and cleanup accommodations for the dogs.
Woods said the specific layout of the park remains in the planning stage.
A Tennessee Dog Park Dash Grant will pay for a majority of the park, Woods said. He said the current budget stands at just over $100,000. Randy and Jenny Boyd, and the Boyd Foundation awarded the city a grant in 2019 to assist with making the community more pet-friendly.
