Plans For Interstate Drive Sidewalks Moving Again

Cookeville will spend some $15,000 to update the engineering plans for sidewalks along Interstate Drive.

The project has been delayed by T-DOT approvals and discussion. The city will contract with Knoxville-based Cannon and Cannon to include multiple changes along Interstate Drive since the project first began in 2017.

The first contract on the project approved May 3, 2017.

Council also voted unanimously Thursday night to create a new Department of Community Development.

A planning division, codes division and economic/community development division would make up this new department. The department will be headed by Planning Director Jon Ward. City Manager James Mills recommended the change to better deal with the city’s growth.

Outgoing Council Member Charles Womack will serve another term as Cookeville’s representative to the Nashville & Eastern Railroad Authority Board.

Council approved the purchase of a new pickup truck to be used for meter reading. The $29,000 purchase was a budgeted item and came in under budget. Public works department received approval to purchase two leaf vacuums.
