Friday’s Clay County at Pickett County high school football matchup has been cancelled due to Pickett players being exposed to COVID.
Pickett Director of Schools Diane Elder said enough players are being quarantined that the school does not have a full roster to compete.
“It is a little bit inconvenient I know for the team and for the school,” Elder said. “But, we have to do what we feel like is best for the health of our students.”
Elder said several other students throughout the school were exposed and are quarantined. Elder said the games could either be rescheduled or marked as a COVID game, which does not affect the school’s record.
“There are always concerns about anyone having the virus,” Elder said. “But, we have to take those safety precautions that are given to us by the CDC and the State Department of Health.”
Pickett County is scheduled to play at Jackson County Oct. 9th, and Clay County will host White County on Oct. 15th.
