The Pickett County School Board added an extra day to fall break for next school year Monday night.
Director of Schools Diane Elder said the breaks now begins on October 7th with school resuming October 17th.
“We will be starting our fall break on Friday before the entire week of fall break, and we did this because we were having so many issues with employees missing that Friday,” Elder said.
Elder said the school system struggled covering classes with several teachers absent the day before break.
Elder said the change means the end of the next school year has been pushed back by one day.
Pickett Schools will end the 2022-2023 year on May 24th. Elder said the school year will still be 180 days and no other changes were made during the Monday Board of Education meeting.
