Pickett Approves Money For Equipment

Pickett Board of Commissioners approved increasing matched grant money by $7,000 to purchase ambulance equipment Monday.

The county purchasing five new heart monitors and five new CPR devices. County Executive Stephen Bilbrey said the board originally applied for the grant for the equipment in 2023.

“From the time that the grant was submitted and approved, and then the state actually getting out contracts seven months later to now, prices on that equipment have went up,” Bilbrey said.

Bilbrey said the price of each heart monitor increased some $6,000 per heart monitor. But the original contract said that if they purchased more than two, the company would negotiate the price. Bilbrey said with committing this extra money, he hopes to have the equipment soon.

“We will get it sent in tomorrow and hopefully by the end of the week we can buy this equipment and hopefully within six weeks we can have it here,” Bilbrey said.

Bilbrey said that the county budget has a line item that is set aside for the grant and they may use the COVID money they have left or the extra money will come out of the county’s fund balance.

In other business, the county road committee voted unanimously to add Maple Chase Drive to the county road list and tabled the vote to drop Fred Clark Lane.
