Pickett Approves Bid For Additional Ambulance

Pickett County approved a bid to purchase a new ambulance at some $271,000.

County Executive Stephen Bilbrey said the county currently has four ambulances in good condition. However, with an estimated 18-month lead time the county wanted to plan ahead.

“You know since it’s going to take so long to get this ambulance they went ahead and approved it,” Bilbrey said. “Because within 12 to 18 months we’re going to need a new ambulance anyway. We’re going to have to replace one of the older ones that we have.”

Bilbrey said they hope it comes within 12 months to use as an additional truck. He said a few months ago, they were down to two ambulances because of maintenance issues.

Bilbrey said when that happens, you hope nothing major happens because if it does, you have to rely on other counties. He said if it comes in sooner, it will provide additional aid.
