Law enforcement officers gathered outside the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Monday to remember fallen officers. Lights remained flashing and officers remained at attention for the solemn occasion.
Sheriff Eddie Farris said all four of Putnam County’s fallen officers have now been added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. This year Deputy J.J. “Jack” Lee and Orville Amos Moss’ names were added. It’s been 75 years since a deputy died in the line of duty in Putnam County, Farris said.
“We’ve been very fortunate here, especially here at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office since 1942, we’ve had a lot of close calls but we’re very fortunate. That also tells us that we live in a pretty good community and the man upstairs is watching over us,” Farris said.
Farris placed a wreath at the Putnam County officers memorial to conclude the service.
“This is in honor of those, not just in Putnam County but all across the state and country that protect and serve and take their chances coming to work and it’s real special,” Farris said.
