The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Academy returns this August.
The 10-week class gives residents a behind the scenes look of how deputies operate. Sheriff Eddie Farris said applications are open now.
“It’s really a good time and a learning experience,” Farris said. “That’s the way we like to look at it. I think people leave here realizing that law enforcement and people that work at the Sheriff’s Office are really normal human beings.”
Farris said the classes will cover the duties of the sheriff, special operations, investigation methods and much more. Farris said the deadline to apply is August 2nd.
“We’ve been proud to do this citizen’s academy here at the Sheriff’s Office,” Farris said. “I think we started the academy in ’15, and it’s been a huge hit since then. We’re looking forward to it.”
Farris said about 25 people will make up the course. Farris said a three hour session happens every Thursday starting August 18th.
“Most people leave here when they graduate saying ‘Wow, we had no idea what y’all do and the responsibility,'” Farris said. “This is not just a show in tell either. We have a lot of deputies and certain divisions show how things work.”
