Paving Begins On Monterey Rail Trail Extension

Monterey’s rail trail extension project is nearing completion.

Monterey Cultural Administrator Julie Bohannon said crews began paving the 1,000 foot extension today from behind the community center to Crossville Street near Burkes Elementary.

“There is a beautiful boardwalk that has been built and I believe it’s 300-feet long and 10-feet wide,” Bohannon said. “Aesthetically it really adds to the town of Monterey.”

The extension brings the trail to 1-mile in length. City officials are particularly excited about the safety the trail will bring for students walking to Burks Elementary School.
