Crossville City Manager Greg Wood said the city believes the Palace Theatre structure is okay after a portion of a wall collapsed Wednesday.
Wood said an insurance company has been on site Thursday with a professional assessment happening soon.
“When I first heard a wall collapsed, I was very concerned, but it’s really just an upper portion of the wall that is above the roof,” Wood said. ‘So, our main concern right now is getting the debris cleared out and making sure we don’t get water into the building.”
Wood said performances for this weekend have been cancelled for cleanup and evaluation purposes. Wood said West First Street from Main Street to West Avenue also likely closed through the weekend.
Wood said the insurance company is reviewing weather reports and firsthand accounts to find the cause of the collapse. Wood said a wind gust remains a speculation.
Wood said the building was fully restored in the late 1990’s, but the collapsed portion of the wall was about 80-years-old.
