Overton UCHRA Opens New 24/7 Food Pantry

The Overton County UCHRA has opened a new food pantry box, located at the county office in Livingston.

County Coordinator Sandra Carter said her staff came forward with the idea to add another food pantry for increased accessibility. Carter said that based on the volume of calls to the office, the need was obvious.

“We want everyone to feel comfortable that way they don’t have to come into the office,” Carter said. “It’s open all the time so that if you find you need something in the middle of the night you can come then, the box is here.”

Carter said that due to increased EBT allotments, the focus on stocking the pantry is on items EBT does not cover. She said the items people are needing right now include hygiene products, cleaning supplies and pet food.

The Overton County UCHRA Office is located at 106 West Henson Street.

“Our staff here at the office and I will keep it stocked,” Carter said. “Whether that’s by donations from our staff right now who are doing most of the donations but we welcome any community organizations, individuals who would like to donate.”

Carter said the pantry will operate on a take what you need, donate what you can philosophy. She said anyone can bring donations to the Overton County UCHRA office between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
