Overton Sheriff’s Office Toy Drive Underway

Overton County Sheriff’s Office Toy Drive now underway.

Sheriff John Garrett said the families experiencing financial hardship can apply with things their children want or need. He said the department has done this for years.

“It’s about community service and what can we do to make our communities a little bit better,” Garrett said. “And if we can make a child’s Christmas or a family’s Christmas just a little bit better by getting a small toy or something they wouldn’t otherwise have been able to get, then I think we’re doing what we need to be doing.”

Garrett said local merchants have agreed to help collect the toys by placing donation boxes inside their stores. He said that for those who wish to donate monetarily, there are Sheriff’s Office employees who can go buy items themselves, including toys, coats, or even food.

Garrett said this is a great community effort to ensure children and their families don’t have to go without this Christmas. He said families in need can sign up for assistance before the November 30th deadline.
