Overton Sheriff’s Department Using Grant Funding For Equipment Upgrades

Overton County Sheriff’s Department using grant funding to help upgrade equipment.

Chief Deputy Tim Poore said the funds will help purchase new tablets and tasers. He said the average taser costs $2,500.

“We’ve been made aware that five years is all that these companies will back,” Poore said. “So pretty much the life of that is done in five years. And most of ours are pushing that or already past that, so it’s time for some new ones.”

Poore said he is waiting to hear how much grant funding the department is awarded. He said that will determine how many new tasers they can purchase.

Poore said another grant helped the department to purchase some 27 tablets, and that he has already been able to outfit every officer. He said the tablets will streamline filing reports and allow officers to do work without having to come to the station.
