Additional classroom space a need for the Overton County School System. Something the school board plans to address in the coming years.
That is according to Director of Schools Donnie Holman. Holman said a building program has been established that focuses on more room for students.
“We have some buildings that are very overcrowded,” Holman said. “It must be addressed. All school systems must continually look into that and that is what we are doing here as well. We are trying to stay ahead of it as much as we can, but we realize we are behind in some areas.”
Holman said classroom space will be a part of budget discussions when the time comes. Holman said the goal of the plan is to decide how much work could be completed in-house versus contracting out.
Holman said the building program was created last year. Holman said school officials surveyed current facilities and submitted the needs to the school board. As a result, Holman said the school system has hired an additional maintenance worker to complete small projects.
