Overton Schools Assign Virtual Only Teachers

Overton County Schools have updated its virtual school program by assigning online only teachers.

The school system has approximately 600 virtual students. Director of Schools Mark Winningham said teachers voiced concerns of being available to both in person and online classes.

“We have had issues with students who are virtual at home with the ability to log on,” Winningham said. “Technical issues that we have ran into, and then, that affects the in-person students, as well.”

Winningham said starting Monday, each grade will have at least one virtual teacher responsible for each student county wide. With the updates, students now have until September 16th to decide which learning option to choose.

“They will be instructing every virtual student across the county,” Winningham said. “That person selected to be the kindergarten instructor for the virtual students will instruct every kindergarten student in Overton County that is virtual.”

Grades K-4th will have one instructor per grade. Fifth and Sixth grades will have two. Seventh and Eighth grades will have three. Winningham said the higher grades have more teachers due to more specific classes.
