Overton Schools Accepting Bids For LA Stadium Project

The Overton County School Board has opened the Livingston Academy stadium project for bids.

Director of Schools Donnie Holman said sealed offers will be opened on January 27th for the full board to consider at a later meeting.

“I have spoken to a couple of people that have contacted me,” Holman said. “I hope there is good interest in it, but I do think now is a busy time for contractors and all this government money.”

Holman said where bids will fit in the project’s budget is the main question. The school board allocated $4.3 million some three years ago. That price has since rose and after several cuts, the estimated cost is about $5.9 million.

“We understand that things have gone up drastically since then,” Holman said. “I know the board members have worked really hard to take the new numbers and to cut back in areas where we can without hurting the program and without hurting the facility to make the numbers match.”

Holman said he feels good where the school stands in the timeline of the project. Holman said he has spoken with the architect and all signs point towards the Wildcats playing at home this year.

“The bleachers, lighting and the scoreboard. Those are three big things that we got on order,” Holman said. “We want to make sure that we order stuff as soon as we can so that we can have it available when we need it. We don’t want to wait for the time comes that we need this or that and not have it.”
