Overton Library To Apply For Some $30,000 In Grants

Overton County has approved its library to apply for three grants, totaling almost $30,000.

County Librarian Judith Cutwright said that the grants will help upgrade the library both by updating its technology and helping the library expand its offerings. She said one particular project she’s hoping to use grant money for is to create a storybook trail.

“I’m working with the city on this to put storyboards around the Central Park here so that it encourages children to exercise a little bit and read,” Cutwright said. “And it’s something that the family can do together.”

Cutwright said that funding will also be used to reinvigorate the little free libraries throughout the county. She said that the libraries see a lot of use through people taking books but not replacing them.

Cutwright said that the biggest grant she’s applying for at some $20,000 will be used to purchase new computers and other technology.

“To replace some of our older computer systems,” Cutwright said. “Becuase everyone knows technology doesn’t stick around forever.”

Cutwright said that she hopes to hear back about the grant status for the storybook trail by the end of July. She said that the other two she expects to hear back by fall.
