Overton Leaders Want To Construct New Facilities At Fairgrounds

Overton County Executive Steven Barlow and the county’s fair board wants to construct new facilities at the fairgrounds.

Barlow said the county is exploring funding options for a new event pavilion, a new horse arena and barn.

“The last thing that was done in the fairgrounds was back around 2000 when we built the ag building we have today,” Barlow said. “Before that, you’re talking 50’s or 60’s since all those structure have been built. It is due an upgrade.”

Barlow said a land survey over the fairgrounds site was recently completed to see what projects would be feasible. Barlow said the next step is finding funding mechanisms. One option being a $630,000 grant the county commission approved applying for this month.

Barlow said commissioners and the fair board have been brainstorming a vision on the future of the fairgrounds. Barlow said the event is a large part of the community that deserves some upgrades.
