Overton Fair To Display Historic Logs

With just days until the Overton County Fair kicks off, the Fairgrounds will display historical logs they received from the Moses Fisk house to promote the history of Overton County.

The fair board received the logs last November. Fisk came to Hilham during the 1700’s. Overton County Fair Association Secretary Bob Matthews said the display will give insight to what life was like during Fisk’s lifetime.

“It helps to preserve the history of those logs,” Matthews said. “And give young people and older people alike, give them some insight as to how log homes were put together and a little information about Moses Fisk.”

Some materials from the old Livingston Church of Christ building will be part of the display. Matthews said the History Museum in Livingston is going provide a written explanation of Fisk and the church to go along with the display. Matthews said he is hopeful that the community will think highly of the display.

“I hope that we get a good response from them,” I’m hoping that they will appreciate seeing some history from Overton County.”

Matthews said they had to be careful with the logs as they did not have many usable logs to start with.

“There were a few of the logs that had some damage to them,” Matthews said. “So we just had to take what we could use and put them together, a few places just wasn’t usable.”
