Overton Election Commission Approves Voting Precinct Boundaries

Overton County has finalized its voting precinct lines.

Administrator of Elections Craig Story said that with redistricting finalized, fewer than 1,000 residents were moved. He said that at this week’s election commission meeting, actual voters got shifted.

“Rickman had grown faster than any other part of the county and so some voters had to be moved because of that,” Story said. The northern part of the county hadn’t grown as much so some voters had to be added there. Once those voters were added by the county commission, then they had to be placed into a specific precinct.”

Story said that the county remains with nine precincts, all of which remained the same. He said that notifications of precinct changes will not be sent out until after the legislature finalizes everything in January, and setting the boundary for the Tennessee Senate, Tennessee State House, United States House.

Story said that the next steps will be getting all voters switched over in the system.

“We’re going to go ahead and make those changes on the computer system and get those voters in the correct precinct,” Story said. “And so we’re working with the software vendor and working with the comptroller’s office and getting that tdone. We’ll be starting on that here very, very soon. And we want the voters to know where they’ll be at(…)We’re going to start make those changes in the system right now.”
