Overton County Teacher Reprimanded By State Board

An Overton County Schools teacher has been formally reprimanded by the State Board of Education for improper discipline and physical contact with a student.

Annette Vaughn reported by the Overton County School System for inappropriate physical contact with a student. She was suspended five days by the school system for the incident issued a letter of reprimand, and required to complete training on proper restraints.

The incident involved Vaughn pulling the student by the arm, grabbing him by the waistband, and then picking the student up and carrying him down a hallway.

Under state rules, a formal reprimand admonishes an educator for certain conduct.

“An educator who has been reprimanded by the State Board of Education under this Rule shall receive a letter from the State Board, which shall become part of the educator’s state record and may become part of the educator’s local record, indicating that the inappropriate conduct is discouraged and shall be subject to further disciplinary action if repeated,” State Rules read.

Vaughn received notice of the intent to reprimand and agreed to the terms, according to the State Board of Education. The board took the action Friday.
