Overton County Drug Take Back Event A Success

The Overton County Drug Take Back Event on Saturday was a huge success.

Overton County was one of many counties across the U.S. who participated in National Drug Takeback Day. Anti-Drug Coalition President Daryl Colson said this was one of the bigger takebacks they’ve had.

“It looked like we collected around 150 to 180 pill bottles, of course they had varying amount of pills in them. All in all, it came out to about 9.8 pounds,” said Colson.

Colson said in previous years they average between five and seven pounds of pills. Colson said the reason he thinks turn out was large this year is because of the pandemic.

“A lot of the people who dropped off their peoples they told us ‘we’ve been inside becuase of COVID and when we finally heard this was available we thought it’s time to take our pills off’ so I think we had a bigger turnout because of that,” said Colson.

If you missed the Take Back event on Saturday, you can still drop off unused medicines at the Livingston Police Department.
