Overton Conservation District Hosting Annual Awards For Local Farmers

The Overton County Conservation District will host its annual awards ceremony Thursday night at the Overton County Fairgrounds.

USDA District Conservationist Robert Halfacre said the event highlights the good work done by farmers and producers throughout the last year.

“Agriculture is definitely a prominent part of the community here in Overton County,” Halfacre said. “There’s a lot of people that wake up and work hard everyday to provide the rest of us with food and fiber. So, we are definitely thankful for that.”

Halfacre said they also plan on showcasing winners of a poster contest. He said they have been lucky enough to provide technical and financial assistance for farms and producers through state and local funding.

“We’re just thankful to come together for an opportunity to come together, enjoy a meal and recognize these folks for the good work that they have done,” Halfcare said. “There are multiple awards with different sponsors.”

Halfacre said attendees can expect to see awards given to a master conservation farmer, wildlife producers, agricultural education, and a friend of conservation. The award ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m.
