Overton Co. Library Offers Free Access To Digital Collections

The Overton County Library will be holding free virtual demonstrations Friday on how to access their digital collections.

Director Cynthia Julian-Simmons said patrons can use the Libby app to find free e-books and audio books in the county and state’s library system.

“It’s very user friendly,” Julian-Simmons said. “And it’s amazing that with your smart phone, with your tablet, with your personal computer or laptop you basically have access to a library right from home.”

Julian-Simmons said all a person needs to participate is a library card. Julian-Simmons said most county libraries statewide use the same app, so all are welcome to join.

“As long as that library system has the agreement with that state and is a part of the state system, which most places do, they will be able to do the very same thing,” Julian-Simmons said. “If they use Overdrive, they will also have the service. This is something that is almost statewide.”

The Libby app made by Overdrive is named one of Popular Mechanics’ 20 Best Apps of the Decade. Three basic sessions are scheduled at 9:00, 9:30 and 10:00 on Friday. A Libby Deep Dive Session will begin at 10:30.

“It is not new to Overton County,” Julian-Simmons said. “Many times people that use READS use something that is called the Overdrive app, which is still active, but Libby is there newish one.”
