The majority of the cleanup at Obey River Park is complete meaning the recreation area will open Friday.
The opening of the park was delayed by two weeks due to the March flooding event. Park Ranger Sondra Carmen said the weather worked out perfectly to reach the rescheduled date.
“We had a contractor that hauled off 310 truck loads of drift,” Carmen said. “Our internal staff, they have been working very diligently the last few days. Long hard hours doing the finishing touches.”
Carmen said now that all of the facilities have been evaluated, long term damage seems to be minimal. Carmen said a few damaged fire hydrants are being replaced and a water line leak still needs to be located.
“It should not interfere with the campers coming in and having access to the campground,” Carmen said. “The biggest stuff and the must problem stuff has been addressed and resolved.”
Carmen said the beach may not be ready until next week as sand shipments are on the way. Carmen said Lillydale Campground is also set to open Friday.
“They can go ahead and come in anytime after 6:00 a.m.,” Carmen said. “The office will open at 10:00 a.m., and they can register and check-in there.”
