Nothing About Me Without Me Youth Conference Friday

Power of Putnam presenting a youth conference the next two days promoting substance abuse prevention, mental health resources, and paths to community leadership.

Conference Head Makiah  Prince said the summit will promote youth involvement in the decisions that affect them

“That’s why the tagline is Nothing About Me Without Me, because none of these things that are dictating their future should be made without them knowing and having an opinion,” Prince said.

Prince said they will use peer to peer education for some key issues. She said they are bringing in youth ambassadors from Cookeville High School to deliver messages about substance misuse.

“We have found that peer to peer education is the best way to get through to youth when trying to get them to understand the harms and risks that come with substance misuse,” Prince said.

Prince said leadership from 12 sectors of the community will speak with summit participants.

“We want them to know that leaders in the community are coming to speak to them because the leaders believe in them,” Lee said. “And one these kids will be in their shoes and fill the needs of this community,” Lee said.

The Nothing About Me Without Me Conference will take place at Tennessee Technological University 1 William L Jones at Dr Bell Hall in Cookeville on Friday from 8a – 6pm and Saturday 8am to 2pm
