Parking at Monterey’s Meadow Creek Park has expanded.
The new gravel parking area is located towards the mountain bike trail head under construction. Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said the additional parking will serve additional park visitors once the trail is completed.
“This was needed in that area,” Cleary said. “Previously, just some dirt, very uneven. There was also some washouts right at the trail head.”
Cleary said a new drain pipe was also installed to prevent future washouts. Clearly said large rocks will be placed by next week at the entrance of the mountain bike trail to prevent off road vehicles from entering.
“The existing parking area at Meadow Creek Lake is not lined either. It is quite an expansion in terms of parking, and it will be safer for vehicles,” Cleary said. “This area was nothing, but uneven rocky terrain, dirt. Sometimes, it would rain so much out there you could not even get a vehicle out there to that spot without it getting stuck.”
The project was paid by a $20,000 grant from Perdue Farms. The parking area is unlined just like the current lot. Large rocks line the boarder of the parking area.
“We are extremely pleased,” Cleary said. “Aesthetically, it is pleasing to the eye. Ronnie Coleman and Hajek, a local construction company in Monterey, were actually the ones in charge of completing this project. They did a wonderful job.”
Cleary said sod is laid down around the parking area to help grass grow back from clearing and burning timber.
