A step forward at Monterey’s Meadow Creek Park this weekend with the official opening of the Outpost, a new kayak and mountain biking rental service.
This new amenity is a joint venture between Caney Fork Bikes and Outdoor Experience. Outdoor Experience Owner Heather Call said the job is at least five years in the making and stems from her experience with trail advocacy group SORBA.
“Started talking to Jeremy Robinson who was the president at that time about a land here,” Call said. “So we started working on the trail-building project. So after working on the trails here for years building, it’s just such a special place and we wanted to share it with other people.”
Call said they will offer, bikes, kayaks, guided adventure services, fly fishing classes and more. Call said the buzz around the prospect has been exciting.
Call said now that the Outpost has officially opened, there are certain things visitors to keep in mind. She said visitors will be to show up, sign a release and get situated for a kayak or stand-up paddleboards. However, as of right now, there are only intermediate trails available for mountain bikers.
“Right now it’s not for beginners, but we are currently working on a beginner loop,” Call said. “We will have a bike staff person here that will help people get started and get them sized up.”
The Outpost will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
