Luna-Hazlewood Takes Over As New Director of Tennessee Tech Alumni Center

Tennessee Tech has a new director of its Alumni Center.

Susan Luna-Hazlewood took over the role of director of the Crawford Alumni Center on Friday. She was previously the Associate Athletics Director for the university. Luna-Hazlewood said she was looking forward to her new set of responsibilities.

“I’m really excited to be here,” Luna-Hazlewood said. “I love Tech. I love Cookeville. One of my main roles is to go out and meet people which is really exciting. I’m always open to talking with people, friends of Tech, alumni. Feel free to reach out. I love to meet people and talk to people and see how we can connect with people.”

Luna-Hazlewood’s primary duties will be fundraising for the university and keeping Tech alumni engaged. Luna-Hazlewood is a career fundraiser. She has fundraising responsibilities in her previous roles at the university as Associate Athletics Direct and Executive Director of Cookeville’s Bryan Symphony Orchestra.

Luna-Hazlewood graduated from Tech in 2007. Her parents are also Tech alumni. Luna-Hazlewood said these deep connections to the university makes fundraising for the university much easier.

“I truly believe in the University,” Luna-Hazlewood said. “I believe what we do here is important, and that we are impacting people’s lives every day. Once you really believe something the it is not that difficult to ask other people to support it as well, to get them to believe what you believe.”

Hazlewood also said it is not just fundraising she is focused on. She said that engaging with Tech alumni is just as important.

“In order for Tennessee Tech to be successful, in order to grow, we need our alumni to be engaged,” Luna-Hazlewood said. “We need them to be supportive of what we do, even if it is not financially.
