Security upgrades have been installed at Bee Rock, fulfilling most of the requests of the nearby Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast.
Owners Mike and Mirtha Kopec voiced safety concerns of the parking area to town officials during a July law committee meeting. Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said a new light and gate have since been added.
“I spoke with Mike and Mirtha over the weekend actually on two different occasions, and they were really pleased that work is being done, and really at a rapid pace,” Cleary said. “I think we met three weeks ago.”
Cleary said Volunteer Electric installed the light at the end of Bee Rock Road and a temporary gate was placed at the trail head. The Kopecs also requested for a security camera which Cleary said Aldermen Alex Garcia prepares to present options during the town’s September Board meeting.
“I think it is a positive step,” Cleary said. “From the get go, we always stated we wanted to be good neighbors to these folks, and we think we have from the get go. Obviously, if they get concerns we want to hear them, and what the city can address we want to address it.”
Cleary said safety signage has also been recently installed leading to the overlook.
