Nashville Business Wants To Build New Warehouse In Monterey

A Nashville-based erosion control and soil sediment company wants to build a new warehouse facility in Monterey.

Stephens Seed and Supply Inc. Owner Joe Stephens said he plans to invest one million dollars into the community. However, public water needs to be expanded to the Crossville Highway site.

“We would like the city’s consideration to run water out there so we can build what we need to,” Stephens said. “What we do is going to be an attractive facility for what we do as an industry.”

Alderman Bill Wiggins suggested a work session with the company before moving forward. The board agreed to schedule the session sometime next week. Alderwoman Amy Martin said she is excited to see the company move to town.

“I’m happy to learn this information,” Martin said. “I’m all for running water to you.”

Stephens said the 10-acre site has already been cleared on Highway 70. Stephens said the company has started the civil engineering process as well. Stephens said his son Clint Stephens would eventually take over the facility.

“We want to invest in the city and hopefully create tax dollars or revenue for the city in that way,” Stephens said.

Stephens said the warehouse would be used for whole sale to expand business into the eastern parts of the state. Stephens said a retail partner also plans to join the development.

“We hope to move on into Knoxville. This corridor of course is getting really busy,” Stephens said. “We’ll be able to distribute from here to Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga.”
