Mt. Gilead VFD To Host Taco Night Fundraiser On Saturday

Mount Gilead Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a Taco Night fundraiser on Saturday, February 19th.

Chief Thomas Steele said that the department is providing an all-you-can-eat taco bar for those attending.

“Tacos are fun,” Steele said. “Our families are in support of doing the taco bar and they’re the ones that are really going to be doing the work behind this while the neighbors are able to interact with the community they’ve come to support.”

In addition to tacos, Steele said that attendees will also have the opportunity to win door prizes from local businesses. He said that funds raised from the taco night will serve in the mission to upgrade the fire station.

“The primary mission we’re trying to do now is to improve our facility,” “It was originally built around 1984 and hasn’t had any major improvements or upkeep to it since so we’re hoping to be able to make the space more usable inside of the building.”

Steele said that the fire department receives a donation from the county each year, but that fundraisers like this are instrumental in helping the department.

“They’re relatively small donations in comparison to our operation costs,” Steele said. “So the fundraisers are what we are able to improve our equipment and our department’s facilities. They’re probably the most important thing we do outside of responding to emergencies in the community.”

Steele said that the taco bar will cost $12 for adults and $6 for kids. He said that they hope to serve food from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
