After weeks of COVID delays, Monterey revealed their new splash pad Thursday.
City officials gathered to commemorate the project’s completion. Monterey Mayor Bill Wiggins said there will be a celebration for the splash pad Saturday morning.
“This is a first for Monterey,” Wiggins said. “Of course we’ve had the swimming pool for years, and now we have what’s called a water feature. I’m sure it’s going to give pleasure to hundreds of youngsters and probably some adults alike.”
Wiggins said the splash pad project couldn’t have been completed without the cooperation between the city, Putnam Mayor Randy Porter, and Parks and Recreation Director John Albertson.
The splash pad has 16 water nozzles and a small seating area. Wiggins said while the water feature is operational, it is not fully complete.
“It’s got one more thing, and that’s just a little fence,” Wiggins said. “That’s for cosmetic purposes only. That will be erected after the Fourth of July happens.”
Construction began summer last year.
