A traffic stop in Monterey results in the arrest of a suspected drug dealer carrying 17 grams of meth, 20 grams of cannabis, scales and bags for resale.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Jackie Norrod of Monterey was booked at the Putnam County Jail. Norrod faces charges under the Meth Free Tennessee Drug Act and other drug related charges.
Police Chief Bill Randolph said at 10:00 PM Tuesday an officer made a traffic stop and called in their newest K-9 named Scout.
“This dog is fantastic, he does it all,” Randolph said. “He can do it all and he works really hard and the handler worked really hard with him, they’re a good team. I expect great things out of them.”
Randolph said this was the first time using the K-9 since certification and he does not know how to describe how valuable the dog is. Randolph said that K-9 Scout has been certified for less than a month and is already a vital part of keeping drugs out of the community.
“It’s in every town but especially in a small town I think it affects more people than everybody knows,” Randolph said.
Randolph said these are serious charges, and a schedule-2 narcotic like methamphetamine is about as addictive as drugs get in Monterey.
“Meth is a problem in every community,” Randolph said. “I just want them to know that if you come through here and we’re working, we’re going to try our best to catch you and lock you up.”
