The Miss Standing Stone Beauty Pageant makes its return on Saturday, September 18th.
Former Director Katelyn Hicks said that the Miss Standing Stone Beauty Pageant is a place for young ladies to make friends and experience the pageant world without being in a high-stress situation.
“We try to make it as stress-free as possible,” Hicks said. “Just so people can have fun. I know I used to do pageants and still do, and it’s a very stressful day. So to be able to just go and have fun is very important to me and I know some of the other girls that do participate in it.”
Hicks said that there are events for many age groups, ranging from Baby Miss to Miss Standing Stone. Hicks said that this year, funds will benefit the Monterey High School Cheer Team. She said that each year the event chooses a different organization as a way to give back to the high school.
“Monterey lets us use their auditorium,” Hicks said. “And we give back into the school. All the money that we fundraise after it pays for our crowns and stuff all the rest of that goes back into whichever team we use. We try to switch it up so we’ll use the basketball team, the boys, and then the girls, and the drama team did it one year.”
Hicks said that the pageant allows people from the community to come together and represent their hometown. She said that she hopes participants keep in mind that while it is a competition, it’s also an opportunity to form new relationships.
“Every pageant I’ve participated in and still participate in I always want to go in with an open mind,” Hicks said. “And looks for new friendships and possibly even talk to new people about things that I may not know about, help somebody with their walk, or anything like that. Go in with an open mind and an open heart.”
Hicks said registration costs $40 with a $10 late fee after 3 p.m. on September 5th. The pageant will be held in Monterey’s auditorium.
