The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department arrested the parents of a five-month-old infant on three counts of aggravated child abuse.
Deputies arrested 31-year-old Kayla Crowe of Monterey Thursday. 26-year-old Dulaney Collums of Houston, MS had been arrested in February on other charges. He awaits extradition to Mississippi.
Collums’ bond set at $175,000, Crowe’s bond set at $100,000. Both were being held in the Putnam County Jail Friday morning.
The investigation began in February when the infant was taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. The child had severe injuries which were reported to the Sheriff’s office. Investigators learned that in January a concerned family member took the child to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital with injuries. That came just days after the child’s guardian left the child under the care of the Collums and Crowe.
According to the sheriff’s report, the guardian of the child then moved out of state on January 24 and could not secure custody of the child. The child was returned to the care of the mother and father.
