Monterey Tie To Be Broken By Town Officials

State officials said the decision of what to do next in the Monterey Aldermen’s race lies with the town.

The ward three race between James Coonie Foster and Cecilia Paulsen ended in a tie Thursday night, with each getting 135 votes.

State Elections Officials said the Tennessee Code states the Aldermen could cast the deciding vote or a run-off election could be held. Monterey’s code might already have language defining the process.

The election still must be certified, a process that will take several days. Putnam County Administrator of Elections Michele Honeycutt said the certification is the next step in the process.
